New York Child Victims Act

The New York Child Victims Act makes a necessary change to long standing precedent in statutes of limitations in child sexual assault cases. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has made this Act one of his top initiatives for 2018-19, and after the Legislature voted to approve the legislation on Monday Jan 28th,2019, it now heads to the Governor’s desk for his signature.

The Child Victims Act will extend the statute of limitations on child sexual abuse crimes to the age of 28 in criminal cases and the age of 50 in civil cases, with a one year-window to bring civil claims for victims below that age limit.

Trial Begins for Ex-GBI Agent Accused of Child Molestation

Aug 31, 2017 - News by

Macon, GA – Charles S. Woodall, Ex Georgia Bureau of Investigation Agent and former youth leader at Northway Church, is now on trial for the sexual abuse of minors.  He was indicted during the summer of 2016 on charges of molesting at least three boys and enticing them along with another boy for indecent purposes.

Woodall resigned from the GBI in November 2015 after his arrest where he had been working since 2011.

Two of the boys, now in their 20s, took the stand this week.  They told the jury that Woodall would show them internet pornography, touch them sexually and use sex toys on them.  One of the young men stated he wanted “to pretend like it never happened.”

Prosecutor, Dorothy Hall, explained Woodall was someone the young boys looked up to.  One of the victims said Woodall would take him camping, hiking, to movies and concerts, treating the child as one of his own.  Woodall befriended the boys’ parents and relatives, which one victim said made it more difficult to come out about the abuse.

It is very brave of these young men to come forward against their abuser.
