New Hope for victims of child sex abuse as Child Victims Act window extended

The state of New York’s court system has made an exception, which will take place in the next few weeks, to allow new filings of childhood sex abuse cases under the Child Victims Act. During his daily coronavirus briefing on Friday, Gov. Survivors of clergy sex abuse livid over release of Priest from prison due to Covid -19 fears

  COVID-19 and the halt of the judicial system is raising questions among survivors of childhood sex abuse especially those who were abused by clergy.  Michael Guidry,  a priest convicted of molesting a teenage boy is out on bail. He was only serving the first year of his 10 year prison sentence, after pleading guilty to molestation of a juvenile. Guidry’s defense counsel, Jane Hogan, requested an emergency appeal hearing due to the COVID-19 pandemic. New Orleans Archdiocese to File for Bankruptcy amid high costs of sexual abuse allegations

  This week, the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New Orleans announced it will file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection due to the growing legal costs related to sexual abuse by priests. The filing could free the Archdiocese from creditors lawsuits and give it time to reorganize its finances.  The New Orleans archdiocese is the latest of more than 20 dioceses nationwide to take such action. Former Mayor accused of sexually abusing young boys dating back decades

  Laurence ‘Laurie’ Joseph Maher, 81, a former mayor who campaigned for the homeless for many years on the New South Wales Central Coast is the ninth person to be charged with multiple child sex offenses dating back to the 1970’s and 80’s. Trial of former Danbury Priest accused of sexually assaulting two young boys on hold due to COVID-19

Jaime Marin-Cardona, 51, is a former priest accused of sexually assaulting at least two young boys in 2014 when he was a priest at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church on Golden Hill Road. He is originally from Colombia.  His Pre trial was scheduled for April 24 but due to COVID-19 it has been rescheduled to June 19. Child online sex exploitation at all time rise due to COVID-19

NY Senators ask colleagues to extend Child Victims Act amid COVID-19

Advocates of the Child Victims Act (CVA) as well as child abuse victims themselves are currently urging lawmakers to extend the lookback window of the  Child Victims Act (CVA) for another year, which would give adult victims of childhood sexual abuse more time to file legal actions against their perpetrators. Online Child sex abuse to increase during COVID-19

  The number of online child sexual abuse cases during Covid-19 could spike according to The National Crime Agency (NCA) and intelligence  from recent weeks shows that  there are at least 300,000 people in the UK who pose a sexual threat to children. There is new hope for the COVID-19 patients and it may be ready for public use by the summer.
