    Arizona lawmakers extended the Child Victims Act last year,  which allowed a one year window on the  statute of limitations for adults who were sexually abused as children to come forward to file a civil suit. Unfortunately, that window is now due to expire as of today, Dec. 30, 2020.     Three former Massachusetts priests, Fr. Sylvio Ruest, Fr. John Salvucci and Fr. T. Raymond Sullivan, who were charged with child abuse have settled a lawsuit this week that will give millions to the victims. Decades ago these priests served in churches in Bellingham, Billerica and Dracut. Fr.   Brillingston Ulloa, 54, from  Minier, has been charged with a seven-year prison term for sexually abusing a child while she was in foster care in his home. The victim was a teenager when the abuse began and continued throughout most of her teen years.  Ulloa was charged with aggravated sexual abuse of a family member under the age of 18.     Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed legislation this week to extend the current deadline for adult Victims of child sex abuse to file lawsuits against their abusers. The New York Child Victims Act which was passed August 14, 2019, had opened up a one year window for sex abuse survivors  to bring claims against perpetrators in cases that had already exceeded the statute of limitations.     A civil suit was filed this week alleging that The Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph covered up sex abuse of minors involving two priests. The suit claims that the diocese knew of the abuse and still allowed the priests access to sexually abuse vulnerable children. “No one can wish this continuing crisis away,” said David Clohessy, former executive director of the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests,  “It takes courageous action to expose and remove sick clerics.     Over 20 adult victims of child sex abuse by Catholic Priests have filed lawsuits under the Child Victims Act, which is an Act that allows victims to sue no matter how long ago the abuse occurred. These lawsuits  claim abuse by several Catholic priests in the Diocese of Ogdensburg, which includes the North Country.  For the first time, there are 7 priests named, who worked during periods spanning between 1961- 1989,  including clerics who served in Malone, Dannemora, Lowville, Massena, Schroon Lake, Parishville, Potsdam, and Crown Point.     Three former priests at Saint Thomas Aquinas Church and Catholic Central High School are accused of sexually abusing kids in  the 1970’s. the Roman Catholic Diocese of Syracuse is named as a defendant in a lawsuit. The victim, who is now 61 years-old, claims he suffered severe physical and psychological abuse leading to severe depression, migraines, PTSD, and anxiety.     Archbishop Wojciech Polak, the head of Poland’s Roman Catholic Church,  is asking the Vatican to investigate the cover-up of child sexual abuse by priests after the release of a documentary on the subject this weekend. The film is about the story of two brothers who want to confront a priest who allegedly abused them when they were children. The Vatican is expected to assign an investigator to the case.
