Former Virginia Beach Youth Pastor Sentenced for Sexual Assault

Oct 12, 2017 - Clergy Abuse, News by

Virginia Beach, VA – Jeffrey Bondi, a former youth pastor at Galilee Episcopal Church, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for felony sexual penetration.

The victim, now 34-year-old Margaret Anne Viola, reported Bondi sexually assaulted her when she was 18.  Viola knew Bondi from her church and was asked to babysit his children.  According to the Virginian-Pilot, Bondi returned home that evening, laid down by Viola on the couch, touched her and penetrated her with his fingers.

Viola reported the assault to an employee of Galilee Church the next day.  Bondi was asked to resign, but the police were never contacted.

The victim said she did not initially press charges because of her modesty as well as her mental and physical health.  The incident caused an earlier eating disorder to resurface.  She also left college for a segment of time.

Bondi apologized at his sentencing to Viola as well as his own family for his “reprehensible behavior”.

Places of worship should be a safe place for people of all ages.
