Father Andrew Kawecki and Father Emil Payer added to list of priests who are credibly accused sex abuse offenders

Two more Diocese of Greensburg priests have been charged with child sex abuse dating back decades.

One of the priests, Father Andrew Kawecki, now 65, who since 1980,  has served in 15 Greensburg Diocese parishes, is charged with sex abuse  against a minor over the course of several years in Fairchance, Fayette County.

The abuse  allegedly took place inside the sacristy of St. Cyril and Methodius Parish and in the church’s rectory.

Kawecki is charged with indecent assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, and corruption of minors against the minor, then 11 year old, when he was an altar boy.

“The assaults left a profound, lasting imprint on the victim’s life,” wrote a State Attorney General’s Office investigator in the criminal complaint. “These experiences drove him to anger, rage, depression, chemical dependency, and eventually several suicide attempts.”

The Greensburg Diocese also spoke about new sex abuse accusations  against another priest, Father Emil Payer . This second priest had  previously been involved in a guilty plea in 2014  of stealing thousands of dollars from Seven Dolors Church in South Huntingdon, Westmoreland County.

Payer allegedly abused “multiple minors and vulnerable adults” in Indiana County in the 1980s and has been since added to the list as having “credible and substantiated” allegations of child sexual abuse. Payer denies the allegations.

Both Kawecki and Payer have been removed from active ministry but are still priests.
