High Court Overturns sex abuse conviction of High Ranking Catholic Official Cardinal Pell

Australia’s High Court unanimously overturned the conviction of Cardinal George Pell and he has been freed from prison. Pell had been convicted of five counts of historical child sex abuse. Yesterday,  Chief Justice Susan Kiefel, after a five-year legal battle, put an end to what began when a man in his 30s approached police and accused Cardinal Pell of sexually abusing him as a child in the mid-1990s. Online Child sex abuse to increase during COVID-19

  The number of online child sexual abuse cases during Covid-19 could spike according to The National Crime Agency (NCA) and intelligence  from recent weeks shows that  there are at least 300,000 people in the UK who pose a sexual threat to children. $21.7 Million verdict is upheld in Rabbi Sex abuse case

A Connecticut Rabbi accused of repeatedly sexually abusing a teenage boy in the early 2000’s was sentenced to 12 years in prison last month.  The accuser, Eliyahu Mirlis, now 32, filed a civil lawsuit in federal court against Rabbi Daniel  Greer, now 79 in 2016. Mirlis said Greer sexually abused him in 2002 and 2003 when he attended the Yeshiva of New Haven that Rabbi Greer founded. A federal appeals court  last month upheld a $21.7 million verdict against Rabbi Greer and a three-judge panel of the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New York City rejected the appeal.  […]

16 cases of child sex abuse by catholic priests spanning 70 years uncovered in Japan

     The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Japan recenty discovered cases of sexual abuse against minors spanning 70 years. Tokyo confernece discoverd in its internal probe of churches  that from the 1950s to the 2010s  16 cases of sex abuse. SInce last May, the Tokyo-based organization has been investigating all its convents and dioceses and encouraged people to come forward with reports of sexual abuse regardless of when it occurred. Cardinal George Pell : court still reserves ruling on Church’s longest ongoing case

  Australia’s highest court will deliver its ruling next week on whether to overturn the convictions of Cardinal George Pell, the most senior Catholic convicted of child sex abuse. Cardinal George Pell is currently serving a six year jail sentence for abusing two boys in the 1990’s at the  Melbourne Cathedral. He is the most senior Catholic clergyman that is jailed, although he continues to maintain his innocence. Catholic Priest steps down from his postition amid accusations of sex abuse

   Bishop Alan Hopes and the Diocese of East Anglia  released a statement last week explaining that Father Michael Ryan had recently been accused of the sexual abuse of children in the past.  Father Michael Ryan voluntarily left his position during the investigation and the accusations have been reported to police and to the relevant authorities. Penn State violated law to protect students for sexual harassment 8 years after Sandusky scandal

  Thursday, the U.S. Department of Education announced that Pennsylvania State University has to make major changes even now, eight years after the Sandusky sex abuse scandal. Illinois Child Abuse Hotline reports drop in calls but can be misleading

Day care centers, school and preschools are shut down around the country due to the Coronavirus and Illinois is taking  part of a statewide effort  to contain the virus as well and now reports from the Department of Children and Family Services’ states that abuse and neglect hotline have dropped dramatically over the past week.
