Former “Teacher of the Week” Arrested for Child Molestation

West Palm Beach, FL – Terrence Gervin Dwarika, a former music teacher, will remain on house arrest until trial after he was arrested earlier this month for lewd and lascivious molestation of two male students. The victims were students of Dwarika’s at Trinity Christian School in Palm Beach Gardens where he taught private music lessons after school.  Police received a complaint from the mother of two young boys after an outing her sons had with Dwarika on December 26.  The outing was intended to be a shopping trip to buy the boys Christmas gifts.  Instead, Dwarika took the boys to […]

Child Victim’s Act Included in 2018 New York State Budget

Albany, NY – Governor Cuomo unveiled a $168.2 billion budget for New York which includes provisions to pass the long awaited Child Victims Act. The Child Victims Act would extend the timeframe a victim has to bring a civil or criminal case against their abuser.  They currently have until their 23rd birthday, but the Act will allow felony cases to be brought until their 28th birthday and civil cases up until their 50th birthday.  According to the New York Daily News, “The bill also included a one-year window to revive old cases and treated public and private institutions the same.”  […]

Trial Starts for Elementary School Teacher for Failure to Report Child Sex Abuse

Cedar Rapids, IA – Diane Graham, a Starry Elementary School teacher, is charged with failure to report sexual abuse of three of her students by a teenaged male classroom volunteer. Iowa law requires any licensed school employee to report any abuse of a child within 24 hours of notice.  Graham previously claimed she had no notice of the abuse which occurred in her classroom in 2016. However, the criminal complaint states two students, on two occasions, advised the teacher of the abuse. Former Bay Area High School Teacher Pleads No Contest to Having Sex with Student

Fremont, CA – Corine Audiat-Gee, pleaded no contest to charges of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor and oral copulation of a person under 18, with one of her students while she was a teacher at Washington High School in Fremont. Fundamentalists Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Sued for Sexual Abuse of Minors

Salt Lake City, UT – Fundamentalists Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (FLDS) is accused of sexual “religious rituals” with underage girls in court documents filed this week.  The documents state that leaders of FLDS would watch, tape and participate in the sexual rituals with underage girls between the ages of 8 and 14.  According to the article on the ABC affiliate in Salt Lake City, these victims were the children of church members, members who were told the rituals were meant, “to accomplish this doctrinal goal of the FLDS Church to raise up good priesthood children.”  Within the […]

National Charter School Network Releases Report of Allegations of Sexual Abuse of Students

New York City – KIPP Academy, a network of charter schools located nationally, hired an outside firm in September to investigate allegations of sexual abuse and misconduct within their network. Initially, network leaders stated the investigation did not involve any current students or staff.  They had received allegations of misconduct dating back about ten years prior, both from the KIPP Academy Middle School in the Bronx, New York. Former Elementary School Teacher Charged for Lewd Behavior with Students

San Mateo, CA – Anthony Satriano, 33, was arrested earlier in the year and recently charged with 16 felonies due to inappropriate photos he took of at least five female students at St. Matthews Episcopal Day School.  Satriano pled guilty to child molestation, attempted child molestation and using a minor for sexual purposes.  Prosecutors believe Satriano held private photo sessions at the school with the 5 to 8 year-old girls.  Authorities found thousands of photos of students. NYPD Opens Investigation Into Russell Simmons, Co-Founder Of Def Jam Records, for Sexual Assault Allegations

After nearly ten women have come forward accusing Russell Simmons of rape and inappropriate sexual behavior, the NYPD Special Victims Unit decided to open a formal investigation into the music mogul’s allegations.  According to Deadline, Simmons responded to the news of the NYPD investigation, “Today, I begin to properly defend myself.  I will prove without any doubt that I am innocent of all rape charges.” Simmons stepped away from his company a number of weeks ago when the claims were initially aired.  The women accusing Simmons of sexual assault range from previous employees to music journalists to massage therapists.
